FAQ

Common questions about capture, privacy, availability and buying Selv.

About Selv

What happens to my data if Selv stops operating? Your retained memory is stored locally, and core capture, search and chat with downloaded local models can work offline. A covered Sovereign version remains licensed after its included update period. Keep secure backups; a perpetual licence cannot guarantee future operating-system compatibility or third-party services.

Does any of it leave my Mac? Core capture and local-model answering keep your content on your Mac. If you choose a cloud model or connect an external AI tool, selected context can go to that provider. Downloads, licence activation and update checks also use the network. Optional sources such as Notion and IMAP only connect when you switch them on. From 0.11.0, Settings › Diagnostics › Network activity shows each connection Selv starts. What leaves this Mac is the written list.

What happens on day one, with nothing in it? Selv can only answer from content you capture or import and that it has finished processing. Enable the sources you want, or import existing notes and supported exports. Processing time depends on the amount of data and your Mac. See Your first ten days.

Can my employer see this? Selv does not provide an employer dashboard for your memory. If your employer administers your Mac, its device-management policies and access still apply.

What about other people in my meetings? With audio capture enabled, Selv can record and transcribe conversations, including calls. Tell participants and obtain any required consent before recording. You control audio capture in Settings and can turn it off. See Audio & transcripts.

Are Health and Statistics included at launch? Health, Apple Health integration and Statistics are excluded from the launch release. The Activity view describes recorded computer use, such as screen-on time and active input.

Plans and availability

What does it cost? Free includes questions about the latest 10 days of retained history. Sovereign is €199 once for the first 500 licences, then €399, with AI search across your retained history and 180 days of included updates. See Plans.

Is there a subscription to cancel? No. The launch offer is Free and a one-time Sovereign licence. External AI providers may charge separately for their services.

Can I download or buy it now? Download and Pricing show current availability. Joining the waitlist does not charge you or reserve a paid licence.

Who handles the payment? Selv is developed and supported by Louis Hein, trading as Selv · Switzerland. Paddle is the merchant of record and authorised reseller for Paddle purchases; it handles payments, taxes and receipts. See Buying, receipts & refunds.

What does "180 days of updates" mean? Versions released during the first 180 days after purchase are included. Those versions remain covered after the window ends. Later versions may require a separate optional purchase; there is no automatic renewal.

Can I get a refund? Yes. Request a full refund within 30 days of purchase. A refunded licence is no longer valid for paid use. Retained local data and exports remain yours. See the Refund Policy.

Is my data less protected on Free? No. Both plans use the same local-storage and privacy controls. Search reach and usage allowances differ.
